$750K Commitment from Truist Championship Advances Cobbs Creek Revitalization

PHILADELPHIA - The Truist Championship today announced a $750,000 donation to the Cobbs Creek Foundation to support the revitalization of one of golf’s most historic public courses. The contribution will help expand youth programs, provide greater access to the game, and strengthen Cobbs Creek’s legacy as a welcoming space where players of all backgrounds and skill levels can connect with the game.

Opened in 1916, the 350-acre Cobbs Creek Golf Course was one of the first public courses in the country to welcome players of all races, ethnicities, and genders. Over the years, it became a gathering place for golf enthusiasts and a historic landmark in the game. Today, the Cobbs Creek Foundation is working to transform the site into a community-first campus dedicated to expanding access to the game and driving positive change in West Philadelphia and beyond.

This tournament is about more than the competition inside the ropes—it’s about creating lasting impact in the communities we serve. We’re proud to support the Cobbs Creek Foundation’s incredible work and help bring this project to life.

The revitalized Cobbs Creek campus will include a championship-caliber course, a TGR Design short course, a two-story driving range and practice facility, a golf history museum and a community center. A key piece of the project is the on-site TGR Learning Lab, which opened on April 1, 2025, providing free programs focused on STEAM educational enrichment, health and well-being and career and college readiness to local students year-round.

“At Truist, our purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities. Supporting Cobbs Creek means honoring a legacy of access, inclusion and excellence in the game of golf,” said Travis Rhodes, Truist regional president of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. “We’re proud to be the title sponsor of a championship that leaves a lasting impact far beyond the tournament grounds.”

As part of the announcement, 13-time PGA TOUR winner Jordan Spieth hosted a putting clinic for local youth at Cobbs Creek. The event took place on a newly built green funded by a $250,000 contribution from the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation—an investment aimed at helping young players build confidence, develop their skills and discover a love for golf.

“This support brings real momentum to our mission,” said Jeff Shanahan, President of Cobbs Creek Foundation. “It’s helping us create a place where young people can learn, play, and see what’s possible—on and off the course.”
